Dr Matthew Starr

Dr Matthew Starr is a highly regarded, FRACS qualified and ANZBCPS board-certified Specialist Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon, who trained both in Australia and internationally. He specialises in breast and body procedures, as well as eyelid surgery.

Dr Starr was raised in Wollongong, and is the only Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon exclusively based in the Illawarra and South Coast region. As a local, he understands the unique culture, needs and lifestyle of this great coastal community.

Dr Starr has a particular interest in breast and body procedures, many of which he performs at Wollongong Private Hospital. Selected day procedures may also be offered at Victoria Street Private Hospital. These include:

  • Breast surgery: Breast augmentation, breast lift (mastopexy), breast reduction, and surgery for male chest concerns (gynaecomastia)
  • Body contouring surgery: Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), arm and thigh reduction, and post-weight loss surgery
  • Facial surgery: Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) and ear surgery (otoplasty)
  • Breast reconstruction: Including options using your own tissue such as DIEP flap surgery
  • Paediatric procedures: Correction of prominent ears, removal of birthmarks or cysts, and surgery for congenital asymmetry
  • Skin cancer surgery: Including surgical treatment of melanoma

At Coastal Aesthetics, we provide a selection of evidence-based scar therapy products to support effective scar management following surgery or injury. Our range includes Pro-Sil™ Silicone Balm, Strataderm™ Silicone Gel, and Silixaderm™ Silicone Tape – all medical-grade silicone formulations clinically proven to improve scar texture, colour and thickness. These products assist in reducing inflammation and promoting a more refined scar appearance over time. Our clinical team can provide personalised recommendations based on the scar’s location, age and individual healing factors.

Wrinkle treatments are a prescription-only procedure that may help soften the appearance of expression lines. These treatments are administered by Dr Starr following a consultation to assess your individual needs. They work by temporarily relaxing selected facial muscles involved in repeated facial expressions. Results and suitability vary from person to person.

Seda is our exceptional Practice Manager and Treatment Coordinator, bringing over 20 years of invaluable experience in the medical and health industry — all right here in Wollongong. Her deep understanding of the local medical community makes her an indispensable asset. Collaborating closely with Dr Starr, Seda plays a crucial role in ensuring our patients receive the absolute best care. From addressing inquiries to coordinating with hospitals, scheduling surgeries, and managing post operative appointments, she’s committed to smoothing out your journey. Seda’s passion lies in making a positive impact on our patients’ lives, dedicated to ensuring your experience with us is nothing short of excellent. Outside of work, she cherishes quality moments with family and friends outdoors. Your journey with us is in capable and caring hands with Seda at the helm.

Margaret Jervis

Receptionist

Margaret is a valued member of our front desk team. With nearly 15 years of experience in medical reception, Margaret is an indispensable part of our patient care team. Her commitment to delivering exceptional care is palpable in every task she undertakes. Whether scheduling appointments or addressing inquiries, Margaret’s expertise ensures that each patient’s experience is as seamless and stress free as possible.

Outside of work, Margaret finds joy in outdoor pursuits like hiking, kayaking, and camping. In quieter moments, she indulges in her love for knitting and reading.

Georgia Herbert

Receptionist

Georgia is one of the friendly faces on our front desk and always ensures that every patient feels welcomed and valued from the moment they step through our doors. With a passion for correspondence and a genuine interest in the well-being of our visitors, Georgia plays an important role in making every visit a pleasant experience.

Georgia has a deep enthusiasm for work in the medical field, previously working in General Practice and bringing experience in patient care and administrative support to the team.

Outside of work, Georgia is currently pursuing her studies in Psychology at university. Georgia enjoys spending quality time with her family, friends, and her dogs.

Practice Nurses

Lisa Hammersley

Practice Nurse

Lisa is one of our dedicated plastics nurses, who collaborates closely with Dr Starr to ensure comprehensive patient care. With over 30 years of experience in nursing, midwifery, and practice nursing, Lisa brings a wealth of expertise to our team. She obtained her nursing qualifications from UOW and has since devoted her career to enhancing patient outcomes and providing compassionate support.

Lisa’s gentle approach and deep commitment to patient wellbeing shine through in her work. Whether it’s offering guidance on wound healing or managing scars, she consistently strives to optimise each patient’s journey to recovery. From assisting with skin cancer cases to supporting individuals undergoing cosmetic or reconstructive procedures, Lisa’s versatility and expertise make her an invaluable asset to our practice.

Outside of work, Lisa finds joy in spending quality time with her family. You’ll often find her immersed in her ceramics studio.

Olivia

Practice Nurse

Olivia is one of our enthusiastic practice nurses, working alongside Dr Starr to ensure high quality patient care. Her vibrant personality lights up the room and immediately makes you feel welcomed as you walk into our practice.

Trained as a Registered Nurse with a background in Surgical and Practice Nursing, Olivia’s dedication and passion in the Plastic Surgery patient journey and recovery shines through in her care. From assisting in skin cancer procedures, managing wounds, and aiding in scar therapy, she has built up an abundance of knowledge and skill throughout her nursing career. Olivia’s compassionate care and focus on patient safety will ensure you feel comfortable throughout your visit.

Outside of work, Olivia enjoys spending quality time with her family, friends, and dogs, and furthering her studies in pursuing her aesthetic career.

Anaesthetists

Bernard Roach

Anaesthetist - MBBS (hons), PGclinUS, FANZCA

Bernard obtained his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 2009 and completed his speciality training in anaesthesia in 2017. He currently works across multiple hospitals in the Illawarra region.

In addition to clinical anaesthesia, he is also a supervisor of training for junior doctors at Wollongong Public Hospital, and Anaesthesia representative on the medical advisory committee at Wollongong Private Hospital.

He lives in the Wollongong area with his wife and three children.

Victoria Sabbouh

Anaesthetist - B.Med.Sci, MBBS, FANZCA, GradCert HSE

Victoria obtained her medical degree from the University of Notre Dame (Sydney) in 2011. She worked across multiple hospitals in NSW as a junior doctor before commencing her anaesthetic training at Liverpool Hospital, NSW. She was fortunate enough to undertake her fellowship, in her last year of training, at Wollongong Hospital and achieved specialist qualification in 2019.

Victoria has a special interest in complex airway management and simulation education. She holds the position of Airway Lead at Wollongong Public Hospital and is the anaesthetic representative on the Patient Care Review Committee at Wollongong Private Hospital.

Victoria prides herself on getting to know her patients and supporting them through their perioperative journey. She lives in the Wollongong area with her husband and their dog, Molly.

Dr Murray Campbell

Anaesthetist - B.Physio, MBBS, FANZCA

After completing a Physiotherapy degree in 2001, Murray returned to Wollongong University to complete his Medical Degree in 2010.

He commenced speciality anaesthesia training in 2014, culminating in a cardiac anaesthesia fellowship in London, Ontario in 2018-2019.

Murray now practices both publicly and privately in the Illawarra-Shoalhaven region, with subspecialty interests in plastics, orthopaedics and cardiothoracic surgery. He is motivated by tailoring his anaesthetic care to the individual patient medical needs and their peri-operative goals.

Outside work, three teenage boys and a brown labrador keep Murray and his wife busy in Kiama.
