What is Siloxaderm™ Silicone Tape?

Siloxaderm promotes the improvement of the scar’s appearance over time. The tape comes in a handy roll with an adhesive backing and can be applied easily at home. It is reusable and can be worn until the edges begin to lift or the tape becomes soiled.

Why Choose Siloxaderm™ Silicone Tape?

  • Medical-grade silicone formulation – Safe and effective for scar management
  • Reusable – Can be used multiple times until the adhesive begins to lose its effectiveness
  • Convenient and easy to apply – Simple to use and can be worn during daily activities
  • Transparent and discreet – Unobtrusive design for scar treatment
  • Ideal for larger scars – Particularly effective for longer or larger scar areas
  • Can be worn overnight – Ideal for continuous, extended use
  • Clinically proven scar care – Supports the healing of both new and old scars
  • Reduces discomfort – Helps relieve itching, redness, and irritation

How Siloxaderm™ Silicone Tape Works

Siloxaderm™ Silicone Tape works by acting as a protective barrier over the scar, helping to lock in moisture while still allowing the skin to breathe. The tape increases hydration and regulates growth factors, encouraging normal collagen synthesis and reducing excess collagen production. This helps optimise scar tissue formation, resulting in a softer, flatter, and less noticeable scar. Additionally, it protects the scar from bacteria and friction caused by clothing, helping to reduce redness, itching, and discomfort during the healing process.

Key Benefits:

  • Hydration and skin barrier – Keeps the scar hydrated and protects it from external irritants
  • Regulates collagen production – Normalises collagen synthesis, reducing excess collagen production
  • Softens and flattens scars – Helps to reduce the appearance of raised or thick scars
  • Reduces discomfort – Alleviates itching, redness, and irritation during the healing process
  • Bacterial protection – Forms a barrier that helps protect the scar from harmful bacteria

How to Use Siloxaderm™ Silicone Tape

Initiation of Treatment

Siloxaderm™ silicone tape should be introduced three weeks after surgery, once the scar, flap repair, or skin graft has completed initial healing and there is no broken skin. Dr Starr will provide personalised scar therapy advice tailored to your unique healing needs.

Application Guidelines

  • Apply once or twice daily – Place the silicone tape over the scar during the day, and overnight if desired
  • Remove before showering – Remove the tape before showering and replace it if the tape becomes dirty or loses its adhesion
  • Reuse the tape – Silicone tape is reusable and can last several days or even weeks if cared for properly
  • Use on larger or longer scars – Ideally suitable for larger or longer scar areas; for smaller or exposed areas, Pro-Sil silicone balm or Strataderm silicone gel may be preferred.
